I remember a friend came to work panting one morning back home in India saying, "Appada! somehow I escaped and came before the girls in my street came and tied rakhi to me!!" He concluded every year he dreaded that day...
Yes, girls especially use the word 'brother', when they can sense a little insecurity, so addressing that way signals the guys to better understand and be in their limits lol :)
