I was angry for a minute.
You would be, if you heard what my friend said: “You are wasting time on a useless blog.”
Wasting time?
This blog has meant a lot to me. It has given me an identity. I am in a different country and staying away from family. Distance has sucked many a good friends from Mumbai. But this blog brought in precious new buddies.
Wasting time?
Last year, a personal problem bogged me down. Five blog friends spent hours chatting with me just to cheer me up.
I have been in touch over phone with quite a few. Some of us have met in Dubai, Mumbai or Chennai. I have discussed various subjects with college students, doctors, engineers, chefs and other professionals. Some are close acquaintances now and we are almost in daily touch.
When I needed info about college admission for my daughter, it was a blog friend who helped. When I told a friend abroad how expensive is college education, without hesitation she asked, “Can I be of any help?” Thank God, I did not need, but was deeply touched.
I just heard that a good blog buddy is marrying another blog friend of mine. They met through blogs.
Know what? I found a friend from Switzerland. Hi brother, she said, and I replied, Hi sister, only to correct, Hi Swisster.
Now she is one of the best gifts that this blog brought me.
Wasting time?
Wait until I list all the best things that my blog brought for me.
Grrr.
awwww .. that is so great .. my blog has become such a good part of my life ... and I am glad I found ur blog .. cheers to blogging .. keep the good stuff flowing in
ReplyDelete:) I agree with you! It is not a time waster!
ReplyDeleteBut one should not become a slave to habbit; Make the habbit a slave to you!
ReplyDeleteCourtesy:- A punch dialogue from old tamil movie!
Ooohhhh Ohhhh did your friend say that?? Guess the friend does not blog. Our blog is part of us now. Push your friend to blogging, would regret saying those words.
ReplyDeleteDefinition of 'wasting' and 'using' time varies. For me blogging is time used properly instead of watching TV and just sitting idle.
ReplyDeleteIn this process, I learnt a lot from different bloggers and made good friends like yourself.
Also by writing on different subjects, I had to investigate and hence learned new things.
You are not wastig time...you are utilizing your time on something you like to and good at.
yes its not a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteRamesh, he is just jealous:-). Besides some people only bother to do something if it brings money.
ReplyDeleteAm glad you met so many good blog buddies here. Hopefully I am one of those as well:)
Keep writing and like you say...dogs will bark!!!
I lovethe name..GLOBAL MADRASI! Sounds so close to who i am..a tamilian..:)

I agree with you that blogging is not useless. I write in a blawg (law blog) and every post necessitates considerable research. My blawg has made me learn more. What more can one want?!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Ramesh. However little time I have I still post a picture on my blog, it has become like an extension of my self. Hope the person who made this remark reads this post!
ReplyDeletethrough blog, I have met wonderful people like you Ramesh :) the list is so long..so many good friends around :))
ReplyDeleteI would just like to say 'bandar kya jaane adrak ka swaad'. Isn't it?
ReplyDeleteOh...I hear this everyday!I know the feeling. But it is not a time waster at all!
ReplyDeleteAgree with you. I do feel guilty that I am spending so much time on my blog. But, I am grateful to have found wonderful friends who are such motivators and willing to offer their help so easily. Keep up the blogging, buddy!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, Ramesh....coz I found eternal bliss by participating in the blogworld . A boon in disguise to rescue me from my secluded monotonous life.
ReplyDeletenot at all time wastage! But you know at the end of the day each to its own! Unless somebody experiences it they can not understand!

ReplyDeleteBlogging waste of time!!!???
ReplyDeletei find blogging to a medium thru which we find ourselves..meet the world...and understand things....so keep blogging
oooops wrong thing to say .. my mates know now not to say a word.. like you i had a personal problem and NO ONE could guess it or know it and a fellow blogger , I am ashamed wriitng a fellow blogger to her.. a Girl who is more then a friend to me a sis to me now.. she was there and listened to my rants every day ...
ReplyDeleteand still does ...
and so many people SO very true Ramesh bhai.. blogging is good .. and it has done wonders to me tooo
get that person somehow hooked on to blogging. he'd know it's more constructive than hanging arnd fb / twitter just for the sake of it ;)
ReplyDeleteI started my blog because friends and family always asked the same questions: what are you up to, where are you going next? I thought why not start a blog and I don't have to repeat myself over and over...grin.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing happened: neither family nor friends really took time to read the blog. But what I gained through the blog were friends in unexpected places.
I did move my blog to my website because it's time consuming to maintain both, and since I write about the same topic in both places it was just a matter of convenience for me. Even though the commenting thing seems to be a bit too laborious for some, good bloggie friends still come for a visit ;)
I only wish I'd be such a good story teller like you :)
Wasting time indeed. I'd like you to tell your friend just how important your blog is not only to you but also to all your readers.
ReplyDeleteat least u r lucky boss..
ReplyDeleteme lost my precious friend here..
Some people are just jealous...ignore them!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Touching that you've shared it with us. Wasting time, how ridiculous! I can relate to whatever you've said because my better half consults her Twitter friends and blogger friends for everything and ditto, I've seen the solutions flying in from all sides. The growth and confidence and identity have been very positive because of such warmth and confidence boosting between bloggers and those on Twitter and other social media networks. I know some people see it as a waste of time. I think its more a case of wasted opportunities. Kudos to you for staying steadfast with your beliefs, Ramesh! I support you!
ReplyDeleteRamesh,
ReplyDeleteWhen do we get to read your next 'wasted time'?
now show him this blog and the list of replies! Grrrr... even i hv a frnd who says i would rather read a good book or watch TV than blog.. I dont knw why ppl r so jealous of us :P

Ramesh don't pay any attention to this. All of us have gained a lot from blogger ,it is hard for many to accept and understand this. And you my friend keep writing, keep smiling.Cheers:)
ReplyDeletei too get super pissed off, wen someone says something against my blog...!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletegrrrrr
cheers to us and the blog.
amen :P
i have heard this up teen times from people who don't know what blogs are all about.but though hard pressed for time, am sure glad i have found this space for myself and also the amazing world of friends.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy feedback from all my blog buddies.. but Ramesh, here comes an honest confession from me:
ReplyDeleteWhenever I am down, I just pop up your blog... I just love your humour, your values, your ideas...
Blogs mean different things to different people.
ReplyDeleteMaking friends through blogs is one aspect.
For many its a kind of cathartic experience.
When we get positive feedback about our posts
that makes our day and is encouraging.
If not, its still fine, it gives us personal
satisfaction.
Your friend is missing both.
great post, sometimes i ask myself if my time would be wasted every time i am blogging,...
ReplyDeleteKeep posting !
