The price of anger

Anger is the gate to hell, rightly proclaims the Bhagavad Gita. It’s funny how different people react when angry.
My uncle used to give me and my brothers an instant slap on the neck. Ooff. Scary. Another relative will take the mirror and strike against his own head when furious with his wife. There was this colleague who would run up and down when angry. Another one would scream at the drop of a hat and immediately run for a cup of water.
My sister would stare frighteningly at me for three continuous minutes and I would look everywhere else except at her.
My wife had a great technique when angry: Stand still and quiet. I
will first start arguing and she will remain silent. I will start
shouting: Quiet. Then I will start screaming. Answer: Silence. I will
bang my head against the wall. She would quietly say sorry. And
pusssss…matter ends with a hug.
There’s this guy who tried laughing therapy and would smile everytime
he got angry. Slowly but steadily, the smile would turn into wrath
and all hell would break loose.
The price of anger?
Mere desperation, loss of wonderful friends (as has happened to me
many times) and above all, peace.

  3. Oh boy, I also used to have a temper, quick to rise and quick to come down. But now I rarely like to show it. After all I deal with young students.

  4. i had a habit of breaking something when angry...before marriage, my sweet mum used to clean it up...but post marriage I only had to do it...so for a long time, nothing was broken...

now I put something in a plastic bag and break it ;)

  11. hey i did read your "dog" post! Thanks for sharing it with everyone :)

As for anger.... i have tried hard all my life to reign in my temper! I am glad to say... i think i now have a better control on it!
Secret to my control: I discovered that ignorance hurts much more than anger/hatred! So I have learned to skip the steaming around part and now just jump to ignoring the person! :P

  15. Hi Ramesh Bhai,

Nicely written piece on anger :)

I have a friend who grabs an ice bag from the fridge and keeps it on his head till the volcano inside cools down :)

So, every time his hair looks wet, we can conclude that he was angry a while ago. ha ha...

    Cheers,
    Sai :)

  19. It's strange, when I was younger I'd explode and throw anything at hand around me, mostly pots and pans. Nowadays I never get angry. Maybe a little bit upset now and then but it never turns into the thunderstorms of the past.

  20. Anger is not all that bad as it is made out to be .....it can be positive energy also if used in a awareness & control.

  21. Mere desperation, rightly said. Late realizations often lead to discomfort in the relationships, with close ones. As Vasant says, 'it can be positive energy if used with awareness & control'.

But where does this awareness vanish when we are angry?!
