Deceptive humility

Never trust a man who is too quiet and too humble, commented friend Ravi.
“Thank God, I may not qualify for that list. If you had said ‘keep off talkative guys,’ I would have been worried,” I replied.
And I asked why he made the comment.
He narrated this true story.
This neighbour had a quiet, submissive son. The son always respected his father. When he got a job, he offered the “entire” first month salary of Rs5,000 to his dad. The proud father was touched. As days went by, the dad thought the son should get married. When he suggested this, the son reacted strongly, “Never dad. You are very important for me. No marriage.” Again the dad was moved to tears. What a gifted son. The neighbours were not amused. “Maybe he is in love, check out,” they told the dad. He checked out. And then came the shock.
The son was not only already married; he had two school-going sons too.
He had concealed his affair with a neighbouring girl all through.
Well. Well.
Heard this joke:
The computer beat me at chess; I avenged with boxing.

  2. Sad that a lot of sons go to that extent to keep their parents happy. I might be wrong in reading the situation tough.

  3. If you ask my wife, she would say 'never trust a man'...she would not qualify with humility etc.

In this case probably he was scared of his parents....I can imagine role models doing it.

  7. Very interesting story, but I feel that son must have his own reasons for what he did. However he was a good son, and that is a plus point.

  8. Heard that line a couple of times - "not to trust the ones who are too quiet..." But I guess, we cannot generalize it to apply to everyone, can we?! Story just shows how some lead false lives to please others.

    Avenged with boxing, huh?! LOL!

  11. I think he loved his father ... and the girl equally ...and obviously he concealed it to keep his father happy...but it is not the right approach

  12. Guess his quiet demeanour served him well to keep a big secret for so long.Perhaps he didn't want to anger his father 'coz he's submissive and didn't know how to handle such a situation. Hence the big lie.

  17. Such incidents do happen and nowadays its hard to trust a person by their looks or behavior - people act smart and we need to be alert when it comes to new friendships or new colleagues.

Yes, as you say people who are too humble and quiet - they have a lot going in their minds they think they can fool people easily but fall in their own pit ;) ha ha...

You always keep your humour intact with your pieces of writing, your last line on chess and boxing explain that and gave me a good smile, thank you :)
